Healthy Breakfast Ideas — Sweet and Savoury

Breakfast can be a difficult meal at times. Most people miss breakfast because they either don’t have time to cook in the morning as they are running late or they are too lazy. It is important to get these nutrients into your body for a smooth day. You need energy to function and this will only come from the food and drinks you consume.

If you are into health and fitness, you will understand it can get quite difficult to keep it consistent, and you tend to be eating the same foods again and again. This can be boring and very de-motivating. It is important to alternate your meals so that it is easier to maintain your diet.

Personally, I crave sugary treats a lot and recently I decided to cut down on my sugar intake. This is very hard as there is sugar hidden in every type of food. So, it really got me thinking how I could maintain this decision.

I woke up one morning looked in my fridge and had no clue whatsoever in regards to what to eat for breakfast. All I had was eggs, Greek yoghurt, bananas, vegetables, milk, and cheese that day.

I decided to be creative and took out the Greek yoghurt. Eating it on its own can be horrible. So I went through my cupboards trying to find ingredients to mix with it, bearing in mind I was craving something sweet. So as a result, this is the recipe and I absolutely love it.

Ingredients:

  • 150 grams of plain Greek yoghurt
  • 10 grams of pure honey or The Protein Works zero maple syrup (my personal favourite)
  • 30 grams of bran flakes/granola (I use the Fuel10k Chocolate Low Sugar Granola)

Method:

Simply just measure out the ingredients and mix them together. This can be also consumed as a snack, and you can add fruit or extra toppings to it as you please.

I then added to my breakfast a banana and a coffee without sugar. I eat a banana just before a workout. It gives me that extra energy boost. Coffee is also known to increase the chances of weight loss as it increases the metabolic effect.

This granola-topped yoghurt is a quick and healthy breakfast. You could also combine the yoghurt mixture together the night before and put some granola in a container to take with you to eat on the go.

On the other hand, if you have a little bit more time and have a savoury tastebud then this is the recipe for you.

You Will Need:

  • 2 eggs
  • 10 ml of milk
  • Oil/butter or low calorie spray (my favourite is the Frylight coconut oil spray)
  • 20 grams of mature lighter cheese
  • 1 tbsp of reduced salt ketchup or mayo (as you prefer)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 wholemeal tortilla wrap
  • Healthy sausages (I have Quorn Lincolnshire sausages)

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to gas mark 6 and then put in the sausages for 20 minutes if you like them a bit crispy, or according to the packaging.
  2. Mix the eggs and milk together with a fork.
  3. Heat up a frying pan with the oil, butter, or spray.
  4. Pour the eggs in and use to spatula to scramble the eggs (you can cook the eggs however you want).
  5. Warm up 1 tortilla wrap in the microwave and grate some cheese on top.
  6. Once everything has been cooked, pour the eggs and sausages onto the wrap.
  7. Season to taste and add any condiments.
  8. Roll up the wrap and... voila!

These two are my favourite breakfast recipes. They are low in fat and high in protein, perfect for weight loss. It also keeps me fuller for longer, allowing me to maintain my calorie deficit diet.
