Avocado and my taste buds did not agree when they initially met.

I thought avocado had an uneasy color and vague taste. 

I was close minded to avocado and its possibilities to enhance my life for better living and essential benefits. 

Avocado is the fruit of the Persea americana, also known as an avocado tree. 

Also known as a superfood, avocados truly do bring more food journeys and possibilities to your table. 

The pear-shaped versatile fruit ranging from green to black is also known as an "alligator pear.". It's pear -shaped and green, bumpy skin resembles an alligator. 

Avocados has a variety of nutrients, vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C, various Vitamin B's and potassium. Avocados also contain minimal amounts of magnesium, manganese, copper and iron. 

Avocados do not contain cholesterol and very low in sodium. 

Below are a list of the important benefits avocado has to bring to the table!

1. Avocados have more potassium than bananas.

One avocado has three times the amount of potassium than one banana. Eating avocados can play an active role in reducing blood pressure. 

Potassium is a nutrient that many people lack in their dietary lifestyle.  This nutrient helps maintain your body cells and improves vital functions. 

Potassium promotes positive bone and muscle strength, cardiovascular health and reduce blood pressure. 

Eating a potassium-rich diet and proper water intake can help improve fluid balance. Positive fluid balance can be influenced by electrolytes.

According to Healthline, avocados are high in potassium. Increased potassium intake reduces blood pressure, which is a massive factor for heart attacks and kidney failure. 

2. Avocados have monounsaturated fatty acids.

Avocado is a high-fat food!

Majority of the fat in avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat also found in olive oil. 

Oleic acid is an omega-9 fatty acid that is in animal and vegetable fats and oils. This monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid is beneficial for your heart, brain, mood, skin, and cells.

Oleic acid aides to reduce inflammation and has beneficial effects linked to cancer.

Monounsaturated fats can help with weight loss and reduce the risk of inflammation and heart disease. Several studies show diets high in monounsaturated can lead to weight loss compared to other low-fat diet.

3. Avocados can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Did you know heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world?

Polyunsaturated fats work with monounsaturated fats to lower blood cholesterol. 

According to the American Heart Association, consuming an avocado daily can lower your low-density lipoprotein, also known as LDL, or bad cholesterol. 

According to Healthline, the leading cause of death factors from how we monitor and maintain our cholesterol, triglycerides, inflammation and blood pressure, to name a few. 

Studies have shown a reduction in blood triglycerides, cholesterol and increase good cholesterol, also known as HDL. 

A study showed incorporating avocado in a low-fat, vegetarian diet can improve your cholesterol levels.

4. Avocados has a unique taste profile!

When I began eating avocado, I was not a fan of the taste. I've adapted a taste for guacamole with extra herbs like garlic. I learned to add spices and seasonings that elevate its flavor.

  1. Slice to place on your burger. 
  2. Mash avocados to use as a sandwich spread alternative.
