Using the Find Me GF App When Eating out Gluten Free

One of the most stressful parts of being gluten free is eating out. One of my biggest struggles used to be trying to find a good place to eat out, especially when I was on vacation in an area I was unfamiliar with. Fortunately, I recently discovered the Find Me GF App. This app has many features that can help you when eating out GF. The Find Me GF has many features that have helped me a lot when searching for new restaurants to try near me. All you have to do is type in the address of your current location (or simply click the current location button) and you will be given a list of restaurants that offer GF options near you. You also can look for restaurants in the category of most celiac friendly, dedicated gluten free, best rated, and the list goes on and on. Each restaurant will have the following information:

Star Rating and Reviews—This star rating will be determined by fellow Find Me GF app users who have had an experience eating at that specific restaurant. Once you join as a user, you yourself are able to write a review on and rate any restaurant you eat at on a scale from 1 to 5. Additionally, you are able to rate it as celiac friendly or unfriendly. Users also may label themselves as celiac or not celiac so you can know how severe of an allergy to gluten they have. Personally, I am more likely to trust the review of someone who has a more severe gluten allergy (a celiac), then someone who doesn't have a severe allergy. I personally do not have celiac disease, but I am sensitive enough to gluten that it is important to me that there is no cross-contamination in the food I eat. Example: say I was in Times Square and wanted a GF restaurant near me .

When Rating a Restaurant :

Distance—On every restaurant you view, it will say how far you are from their location. The closer the location, the further up it will pop up when you search for gluten free restaurants near you.

Price—There will be a certain number of dollar signs on each restaurant views. Dollar signs typically range from one dollar sign to four dollar signs. One dollar sign means it is the least expensive, and four dollar signs it is one of the more expensive restaurants.

General Contact Info—Depending on each restaurant, many will have directions, phone number, website, and a menu to view.

Important Things to Note:

While the Find Me GF is a great way to find new GF restaurants, it's important to remember that star rating and reviews come from fellow users of the site. While many reviews are credible, sometimes users have different review criteria. Most people give a star rating for the GF safety level, but some people give bad reviews for variables that really depend on a case by case basis. These include, but are not limited to, customer service, how much time it took to get their food, etc. It is important to remember that every review depends on everyone's unique personal experience with that restaurant. Some staff members may be more knowledgeable than others at certain restaurants, and it's always important to be your own advocate and double check at restaurants.
