Whole Wheat Bread Toasted with Truffle Oil, Poached Egg with Homemade Truffle Hollandaise Sauce, Topped with Orange Leaves for My Brother

Ensure by starting with the hollandaise sauce, toast, and eggs. That will ensure a smooth cooking time.

Hollandaise Sauce:

Serves 1 or 2 plates:

  • 1/2 cup of truffle oil
  • An egg yolk
  • Half a lemon, juiced
  • 2/4 cup of melted butter
  • *An easier method is to use a blender however hand whip is still possible but with extra hand workout*

Steps:

  1. Mix or blend egg yolk and lemon together.
  2. Once incorporated, then gradually mix in the melted butter and then the truffle oil while mixing or while the blender is still on. This is the process of emulsification where the oils and butter droplets are broken apart with the egg yolk and lemon mixture.
  3. Mix until the mixture is thick and have a sauce-like texture, this will also "cook" the egg yolk during the emulsification.
  4. Then season the sauce with salt and pepper.

Toast:

Serves per person:

  • Truffle oil, drizzle (up to your preferences)
  • 1-2 slices of bread
  • A pad or tablespoon of softened unsalted butter

Steps:

  1. Spread softened butter onto the bread evenly. With the bread buttered side down, drizzle the truffle oil lightly onto the bread. The truffle has a strong taste, but it is all up to your preferences on the taste.
  2. Put the bread into the toaster and toast it until the bread is golden brown. You can also toast the bread with a pan by heating up a non-stick pan with the heat on low to medium heat. Then put the bread on the pan for one minute on each side, but keep checking until you are satisfied with the level of toast.

Poached Eggs:

Serves per person:

  • 2 or more eggs (up to your preferences)
  • salt and pepper to season
  • orange basil leaves or just basil
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • paper towel

Steps:

  1. Fill the boiling pot with vinegar and water and make sure that water is filling the pot at least five cm deep.
  2. Bring the water to a gently simmer.
  3. To stay organized, crack the egg into a separate bowl. This can also ensure that the egg yolk will not and stay as a whole.
  4. While the pot has reached to a gentle simmer create a vortex by spinning a spoon in the pot.
  5. Once the vortex is created drop the egg in the middle of the vortex.
  6. To cook the egg depends on your personal preference. The picture from cookingcurls.com can give you a visualization of how long you should cook the eggs of your desire. The traditional egg Benedict is when the whites are cooked, but the yolk is still runny which is known as soft-boiled poached eggs. This will take two minutes. For a firmer yolk, it will take a maximum of five minutes therefore cook the eggs for two to four minutes—two being the softest and four being the firmest.
  7. Once the eggs are ready, scoop the eggs gently and place the eggs onto a paper towel to dry out the eggs.

The Poached Eggs Timetable:

Plating is the art of your meal and shows the effort that you have put in the making. Therefore it is the most important part to show the luxurious vibe to the meal. I would add chopped chives to add color, but from the picture, I add orange basil leaves to not only give color but to add a fresh fragrance to counteract with the strong scent of truffle. You can add some spice to it like smoked paprika into the hollandaise sauce or chopped jalapeños on the dish. This is your dish, personalize it for that special someone, and they will be amazed at your skill into making this dish.

However, overall, even without the art of plating, it all comes down to the significance of creating this dish to that special someone. And that is love. It will still taste amazing, and your audience whomever that may be will still appreciate the thought that you have put into the dish.
