My Poorly Decorated, Valentine's Themed, Better Than Sex Cake.

Hi, lovelies! So just a quick introduction since this is my first ever post. My name's Amber Lynn Miller and yes I know, it's the most generic name in the universe. I'm sure there's heaps of Amber Lynn Miller's out there but I wasn't always a Miller. I married my wonderful husband this past August, we both moved all the way from California to Kentucky and to be hands down honest, for me it's been hard. I miss my Mom, my Grandma, and don't even get me started on my cat Zeus. The sweetest little fur baby I've ever grown to love and I couldn't bring him along. *legit sobbing*

The mixture of homesick , homemaker, and pregnant cravings has led me to making, eating, and sharing this special recipe. I baked this cake for my husband earlier tonight for Valentine's, so I decided it would be perfect to share with you guys although I know that it's late now and I probably should have uploaded this earlier, but hopefully this recipe can be of good use for the next special occasion! Hopefully a friend's February birthday? 'Cause let's face it, like birthdays, holidays are pretty much acceptable to celebrate the whole month! At least that's my logic.

About the recipe: "Better than Sex cake" or "Better than Anything cake " is a chocolate cake soaked in condensed milk & caramel, coated with cool whip and topped with extra caramel and amazing crushed chocolate toffee candies.

I'm a HUGE fan of tres leche and chocolate so this recipe is pure magic!

You can choose whatever chocolate cake mix you enjoy the most but the cake I have listed in this recipe is Betty Crocker's German Chocolate cake (my favorite). You can also choose your own brand of caramel. Those details don't make much of a difference other than preference!

The pan: Now I used a 10x10 square baking pan I picked up from Michaels Arts & Crafts store. Baking time DOES vary on your pan's shape so make sure to give a good Google search on how long you should be placing your cake in the oven if it is not already stated on the back of your cake mix box. I wish I had the answers lined up for you right now but unfortunately I don't have all the knowledge. Google is pretty much my best friend.

I baked my cake for 25 minutes and it turned out wonderful. I did a hole poke check to make sure I had baked it all the way through and then it was on to the cooling.

When poking holes, be wary that the less holes you have, the less the condensed milk will seep to the center of the cake in those areas so be generous when stabbing up your cake.

While your cake is cooling down, it's important to pour your condensed milk over your poked holes SLOWLY and while your cake is STILL WARM! In the past I have carelessly dumped the condensed milk on top of my cake and don't get me wrong, I still had a tasty dessert in the end, but it definitely had room for improvements.

When pouring slowly, you can be more certain of where your condessed milk has soaked and where it hasn't. You will achieve a more even soak which will taste way better, trust me.

The only thing to keep an eye on after those steps would be to make sure your cake is cool enough before applying the cool whip. You don't want it to melt into the cake as well.

I enjoy placing mine in the fridge a while once it's all done and prepared because it tastes like a cold candy bar, which is a guilty pleasure of mine, but this cake works amazing both ways! Have fun and enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 box Betty Crocker German Chocolate Cake mix.
  • 1 1/2 cups water + 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil + 3 eggs (needed for German Chocolate cake mix)
  • 1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (16 oz) jar of caramel sauce
  • 1 (8 oz) container of cool whip, thawed to room temperature
  • 3-6 health or skor candy bars, chopped for topping

Instructions:

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, then proceed to follow baking instructions on the back of the box.

2. Once your cake is out of the oven, let cool for about 5 minutes.

3. Poke holes in cake with round utensil. (Bottom of wooden spoon, chopstick, wooden stake)

4. While still warm, pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top of your cake, making sure it seeps into the holes.

5. Now drizzle the caramel sauce over the condensed milk, making sure it seeps into the holes as well.

6. Once your cake has cooled down, then proceed to top with cool whip and add your chopped up Heath or Skor bars topping. Extra caramel and/or chocolate sauce can be added here.

7. Place in fridge until ready to eat or serve right away!

Enjoy :)
