Buffalo chicken is a treat that every sports aficionado and barfly has tried, loved, and gotten addicted to at one point or another. Though it has its roots in Buffalo, New York, this classic treat has spread around the world and gone through a multitude of different iterations.

For many barbecue fans, finding an excellent buffalo chicken recipe is like going on a quest for the Holy Grail — you never stop exploring. The same can be said if you're a buffalo chicken fan with a crock pot, too.

Though it may be impossible in the eyes of some, we might have just found the best slow cooked buffalo chicken recipe ever made. Here's how to bring that delicious spicy, juicy, and sauce-slathered goodness to the dinner table using your own slow cooker.

We have some news about the best slow cooked buffalo chicken recipe we found, though...

Now, when you think of buffalo chicken, you're probably thinking of deliciously roasted wings with a crispy breaded exterior, a juicy interior, and a tasty sauce topping. The best slow cooked buffalo chicken recipe we found isn't actually breaded — but it is incredibly tasty and crispy.

They're in wing form, but you can make them boneless if you use chicken breast strips. These wings rank highly as gastropub food that pairs well with craft beer, but can handle their own against white wine too.

Here's how to make the best slow cooked buffalo chicken in town, starting with ingredients.

First, you'll need a lot of ingredients to make these wings happen — but they're so worth it. Before you grab your crock pot, make sure you have the following on hand:

  • 2 12-ounce bottles of Frank's Red Hot or your hot sauce of choice
  • 2 teaspoons each of dried oregano, onion powder, and garlic powder
  • 4 pounds of chicken wings
  • 1 cup of butter, halved into two small cups
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Ready to go? Here's how to make some of the best slow cooked buffalo chicken you'll ever eat...

First, let's get the slow cooker wing sauce ready.

To start, you're going to need to add one bottle of hot sauce, 1/2 cup of butter, all the spices and all the Worcestershire sauce in a medium sauce pan. Slowly stir the mixture until the flavors of the onion, oregano, and garlic powder are evenly blended with the sauce.

Bring it to a boil, reduce the heat, then let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Now, add the chicken wings to the slow cooker and pour the sauce on top.

Once you've made the wing sauce, you're halfway done with all that hard work in making the best slow cooked buffalo chicken wings ever. After pouring the sauce on the wings, close the slow cooker's lid and cook them on high for two hours.

Once they're done cooking on high, drop the temperature to low and cook for an additional two hours.

This unlocks all the juicy moisture in the chicken and allows the flavor to permeate through the wing's skin. Now, while your wings are in the final stretch of their crock pot time, grab some baking sheets and grease them. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once the slow cooker's done doing its magic, pop the wings on the baking sheet and shove them in the oven.

The wings only need to be baked for about 30 minutes, or until crisp. This gives them the crispy bite you need.

While they're baking, melt the remaining 1/2 cup of butter with the remaining bottle of hot sauce in another saucepan. Stir the sauce gently until it's evenly mixed, and brush this sauce over the wings once they're out of the oven.
