Saint Augustine is a very tiny town. It was once a hub for train riders in the height of the 20th century. Yet, there are some things in the local town that most people overlook. There may be great quality restaurants, but sometimes, you just need to look in the nooks and corners of the city to find the best places to go.

Pizza Time (Saint Augustine, FL)

Located on George St., this local pizza shop has a line outside the small place when it gets closer to dinnertime. The restaurant serves pizza similar to that of New York. There are vegetarian options toppings for those who don't eat meat. But there are some good looking meat options for those who eat everything in between. When you are done eating pizza, they have a gelato bar in the restaurant where you can get a sweet treat.

A1A Ale Works (Saint Augustine, FL)

This American restaurant has everything from gator to seafood. Their beers come from most of the breweries in Florida, but they offer great food at a decent price. Located off King St., you can walk to the Kookaburra Cafe to grab a nice coffee or a local pastry shop serving French deserts such as truffles, macaroons, and tarts. If you want to take a walk down the boardwalk, you can head over to the local Spanish fort for a tour about Spanish occupancy in Florida.

Hoptinger Bier Garden & Sausage House (Anastasia Island)

If you are a huge fan of beer, this restaurant contains a wall with nothing but taps. There is a large chalkboard that contains all the beers on tap or that have run out. These beers from locally or around the state. But their food is delicious and tasty. A plate of fish and chips or poutine are just some of the things on their menu.

Les Petits Pleasures (Anastasia Island)

Known as The Little Pleasures, it is a French restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. You can get a traditional French petit-dejeuner, or breakfast, which contains a slice of baguette, a croissant, yogurt, jam, and coffee with milk. The croque monsieur with a mimosa is also very filling and delicious. Of course their pastries and deserts are just as gratifying.

Crucial Coffee Cafe (Saint Augustine, FL)

A small little shack that makes it worth the while. A chalkboard is written with the local flavors of the day. There isn't much for pastries and deserts, but their coffee is delicious. The lemongrass chai tea is also a great way to get a kick to your system or a coconut latte to enjoy that morsel of chocolate deserts bought on George St.

Crème de la Cocoa (Saint Augustine, FL)

This little bakery is next to DOS Coffee & Wine bar where a local food truck provides meals that you can enjoy in the bar's lounge area. Local beers and wines are also provided inside and you can enjoy some homemade options too.

One Twenty Three Burger House (Saint Augustine, FL)

Great place for burgers and wings. They make pizza on site as well. They have a few select beers on tap from around Florida, but the food is the best. There's a good bleu bacon burger or boneless wings in a sauce similar to Bonefish Grill's bang bang shrimp. Have a red ale with that shrimp and it will be the best meal for a nice night on the town.

Gaufre's & Goods (Saint Augustine, FL)

This little nook is home to Mediterranean and Eastern European dishes and deserts. Their pirogies are delicious and come in multiple options. You can enjoy those pirogies with a nice, cold glass of Żywiec beer. I have had pirogies in Krakow, Poland before and I will tell you you won't regret eating them. Especially the mushroom and sauerkraut ones.

But whatever your desire and your specialty, Saint Augustine hosts a buffet of dishes and cultures at your fingertips. You can enjoy some of the local tourist attractions and enjoy a meal or two on the go.
