Garlic and Onion Burger Recipe

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian-style seasoning

In a large bowl, mix together the beef, worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, salt, pepper and Italian seasoning. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat grill for high heat. Form burgers into 1/2 inch thick patties. Lightly oil grate and place burgers on grill. Cook for about six minutes on each side turning only once.

Makes about 4 patties per pound depending on how big you make your patties.

Which Italian Style Seasoning is the Best ? Organic or No?

The term organic means that it was grown with sun, water, love and sweat and toil. Not with pesticides and other awful poisons and processing that, if you knew everything about the way the herbs were grown and processed before they put them on the shelf of your favorite grocer and you happily went shopping to buy your ingredients for your lasagna, let's face it. They would probably go out of business or you just wouldn't believe it. That is why when you buy a tomato you should wash it before using. Well, herbs are a little different. They are smaller and depending on what they are, hard to get the pesticides out of them because they are plants. Some of them absorb the stuff that is sprayed on them because of their porous stems so, even if you dried them, like oregano, you grow it dry it out, and grind or chop it up. If it's not organic, no matter how much you wash it, your grinding up the pesticides that they used at the farm to grow them, also. The best thing you can do is pick the organically grown at the store or grow your own. I found a wonderful video on YouTube that shows how to make your own Italian seasoning blend all organic because they grow it themselves.

This is the best video by a real live person like you and me and not a commercial professional and she really does grow her own herbs and processes them in her kitchen at home with no insecticides.

Sauteed Avocados

Sauteed Avocado Recipe

  • 3 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 3 tbsp yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 large, firm, ripe avocados
  • juice from 2 large limes
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2/3 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil

Combine whole wheat flour and cumin on sheet of waxed paper. Combine cornmeal and chili powder on a second sheet of waxed paper.

Halve, peel, pit and slice avocados 1/4 inch thick slices. Sprinkle slices with lime juice. Dip half the slices in the flour mixture and half in the cornmeal mixture. Dip slices into beaten eggs, then in bread crumbs to coat.

Meanwhile, heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

Working in batches, pan fry coated slices in hot oil about 15 seconds on each side or until golden brown. Transfer with a slotted spoon to a larger plate lined with a paper towel. Serve warm.

Makes 16 slices per avocado.

These avocado slices can be served as an appetizer with salsa, or fish with tarter sauce. They are so crunchy and delicious, even people that don't like avocados will love them.

**This is a great summer cookout meal because it is lighter than it sounds. Some things you can make ahead of time. You will amaze your friends and family with how deliciously this goes together and with a little chilled red wine or a wine cooler it's a big hit for summer entertaining outdoors.

I found this video on YouTube, very informative about how to pick avocados because if you're not used to buying them and haven't worked with them much it can be confusing and they have a lot of tricks and tips about handling and cooking with them so enjoy!

A little Red?

Maybe a little Red Moscato would be in order!

When you have wine with your burgers generally, it should be smooth but, if you are not sure, always go with the red. Because no matter what other mistakes you make when you are serving red meat like beef burgers, steak, or brisket you can't go wrong with the red. But, for the most part the Moscato red Blend is fruity and compliments the beef flavor very well!

But, if you don't prefer fruity wines then I found a great video on YouTube that you might want to check out below.

The is the best video ever for pairing wine with beef. From steak, prime rib to burgers they have all the answers!
