5 Must Try Foods in NYC

From Risotto Balls to Monster Milkshakes

First up are the Arancini Bros, who make amazing risotto balls. Each one is packed with so much flavor and they are the best bang for your buck because just one or two is enough to fill me up. The Arancini Bros have a ton of different balls, including vegetarian and vegan balls, so there are options for everyone. One of my favorites is the the "Al Burro" which is stuffed with prosciutto-cotto, béchamel, mozzarella, and saffron. There are even dessert balls, which I was hesitant to try, but their nutella ball is fantastic.

Their main location is in the Essex Street Market but they often have pop-ups at winter markets or outdoor concerts, so keep your eyes peeled.

The best slice of pizza you will get in NYC is at Artichoke Basille's Pizza. Their namesake artichoke slice is pizza perfection. I was a little hesitant to try the pizza because I'm personally not the biggest fan of artichokes, but the second I took a bite I was sold. Now every time someone comes to visit me in the city, one of the first places I take them is Artichoke and everyone has loved it.

A slice here might cost a little extra then a normal NYC slice, but it's definitely worth every penny. The slices are so filling that I often like to split a slice with someone. They have locations all over the city but I personally love the location in Chelsea which is right by the High Line so I can just grab a slice and then enjoy the view from the High Line.

Baohaus is a tiny spot on East 14th which specializes in bao buns (steamed buns filled with yummy goodness). I've tried many bao buns but none have compared to Baohaus. The price is right and the flavors are beautiful. I recommend the Birdhaus Bao, which is their fried chicken bun. The fried chicken is especially good because it is brined for 24 hours before it is fried, making it juicy and giving it an extra punch of flavor.

Baohaus is a small location that can only seat about eight people max, so plan for takeout. Go to a park nearby and enjoy the view of the amazing bao buns you are about to devour.

Next up is the Kati Roll Company which makes kati rolls, an Indian street food. These rolls are packed with flavor and there are a lot of options, including vegetarian rolls. My favorite was the beef tikka roll. It was filled with beautifully marinated beef, lime cilantro chutney, and pickled red onions (which are my biggest weakness).

Kati Roll company has five different locations across NYC but the East 53rd location is just a 15 minute walk from the MOMA, which makes a few kati rolls and a lassi to drink the perfect meal for before or after exploring the MOMA.

Finally we have the famous Black Tap milkshakes. At this point, some people may say that these crazy milkshakes are overrated, but I completely disagree. I stood in a three hour line in winter for these milkshakes when they were at the height of their popularity and they were 100 percent worth the wait. Luckily, more locations have opened up since the first time I went, so there is no longer a three hour line-up. If you are lucky, you can get in with no wait time, but there is still sometimes a wait depending on what time you go.

There are four locations in NYC, but I recommend the Broome Street location, which is the original location of Black Tap. The inside is just as cool as the milkshakes but I suggest bringing a friend or two to help you finish the monster milkshakes.
